Health plan matches all gifts dollar for dollar, is “humbled” by employees’ generosity

Berlin, Vt.— Employees at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont (Blue Cross) donated $8,555 to the Vermont Foodbank to assist with the growing need for food assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Blue Cross matched these funds dollar-for-dollar to make the total donation $17,110.

“As a team of Vermonters servings Vermonters, all of us at Blue Cross care deeply about the health and wellbeing of our neighbors,” said Megan Peek, the health plan’s director of community relations and health promotion. “Our employees recognized the need for additional food resources in our local and statewide communities and responded with an online fundraising drive for the Vermont Foodbank.”

Blue Cross supported this effort by promising to match employees’ donations. Over the course of the two-week fundraiser, 85 Blue Cross employees donated to the Foodbank to support hunger relief for Vermonters facing food insecurity during this unprecedented health and economic crisis.

“The Vermont Foodbank has seen a 30-100% increase in the number of people in need of food assistance due to COVID-19,” said Vermont Foodbank CEO John Sayles. “These are unprecedented times that require that we all do what we can to meet this need. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont is doing just that, and we are grateful for their partnership.”

“Our employees were reaching out, looking for ways we could all give back and support our fellow Vermonters. Giving to the Foodbank allows us to impact a critical need affecting our neighbors throughout the entire state,” said Andrew Garland, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont’s vice president of client relations and external affairs. “We are so impressed and humbled by this outpouring of generosity from our team.”
